Job Readiness
LifeStream’s Employment & Training Division has a 25-year tradition of successfully assisting economically disadvantaged people to find and maintain career employment.
Our philosophy is grounded in building strong employer and employee relationships through continuous communication, training, and community involvement.
LifeStream is the primary provider of the Comprehensive Integrated Employment Services (CIES) program in Greater New Bedford, assisting the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) recipients in seeking employment as well as training them for the workplace. We provide numerous services to help you get started and stay on track, including:
- Job readiness training
- Job placement assistance
- Workplace counseling
- Job retention assistance
Individuals will spend 30 hours per week in the training program, which is similar to a daily work environment. Topics include timesheets, proper dress, general health, and nutrition.
We offer guidance on workplace behavior, balancing work and home life, improving language and math skills, preparing resumes, interviewing skills and job search techniques. We identify skills, strengths and current issues related to keeping a job. Most importantly, we will work with individuals to create a personalized Employability Development Plan that will identify at least three job choices that we feel are a good match for each individual.
Lifestream staff will work with P.A.C.E. and caseworkers from the DTA to provide childcare and transportation reimbursement.
Employment & Training offices are located at 444 Myrtle Street, New Bedford.
